Feast of St Brigid

Today we honour St. Brigid who, together with St. Patrick and St. Columcille is one of our country’s three patron saints.
St. Brigid directly influenced several other future saints of Ireland and her many religious communities helped to secure Irelands conversion from paganism to the Catholic faith. She was known for her compassion and charity to the poor as well as her extraordinary spirituality. She is traditionally associated with the Cross of St. Brigid, a form of cross made from reeds and straw that is placed in homes for blessing and protection.
