Safety in school grounds
I really need your help parents and remind you:
That we operate a 'drop off zone' and a one way system. We have had a few 'near misses as parents have not followed the one way system and have 'cut off' across the flow of traffic, to park in the area beside the canteen. I am very fearful that we will have an accident.
- That you need to be so careful when dropping off children. Pupils should disembark onto the pavement- not onto the road/ car park side, where cars are busily trying to depart.
- When driving off from your'drop off position' that you need to be mindful of other cars coming up from behind. We have had a few 'near collisions' re this.
- That buses are being held up when some of you stay too long in your 'drop off' position. I have frequently seen the bus unable to take the bend to get to its drop off position because some of you have left your car unattended or are delaying your departure to make phone calls etc, unaware that your vehicle is blocking the way.
I know that with your support we can make the process safer for our school community.

Paying tribute to the lives of former staff members of St Colman's Abbey PS or St Clare's Convent PS.
At the time of amalgamation it was agreed that funerals of staff of the former schools would not be attended by pupils from the newly amalgamated school. This was to avoid anyone being overlooked due to current staff being unaware of former connections with the schools.
That seemed like an appropriate arrangement at the time. However, having personally attended recent funerals of deceased former staff, I have become uneasy with this arrangement. Therefore, it will be modified as indicated below.
The family of a deceased member of staff of Abbey PS or St Clare’s PS, who retired from either school may request a school representation at their loved one’s requiem mass. If the mass is taking place during school hours and in a local church, we will try our very best to facilitate the request. Requests may be made via telephone 02830262175.
We cherish the contribution that former staff made to both schools, from which we grew.

Principal's Update 6/9/24
Good morning parents, it is wonderful to be back with you all again.
Uniform:
I thank you sincerely for the effort you have invested to ensure that your children have the correct school uniform. I am delighted to say that almost every child is beautifully presented and I appreciate how difficult it is to achieve that. Our school uniform is so smart and worn as well as it is by each child it sends out a very clear message re the high standards we all have for St Clare’s Abbey. Your children are our ambassadors and they do this job very well, thanks to you. (As always donations to our pre loved uniform supply will be gratefully received, especially: ties, navy socks and tights, key stage 2 tracksuits and summer dresses.)
Homework:
Have a great weekend, knowing that your children have settled well into their first full week. We are easing everyone in gently and homework proper will begin on Monday 23rd (although P7 teachers will be in touch prior to that about homework that will need to be completed next week by pupils sitting the GL entrance exam.) Reading will also be set in each class in the week beginning 16th September
NB The teachers are currently sending out the QR codes for Seesaw and I know that lots of you have used these to connect already, please do so ASAP if you haven’t yet, as all homework will be delivered via Seesaw.
Start of year documents to be signed by each family:
Next week the teachers will post Start of year consent forms on your child’s class Seesaw page. Please respond to say that you approve and if not please respond to say that you do not. From next week pupils will be using digital learning programmes, going for visits outside school grounds and key class photographs will be displayed on the website. If you have not provided your agreement on Seesaw your child will not be able to participate. Should you need to discuss any aspect of this, contact me.
Should you have specific dietary requirements relating to your child for health /cultural or religious reasons please call to school office to complete relevant documentation.
Website:
I would love to know if you have any comments to make about how your child has settled into school and would urge you to send me a little e mail or send a message directly to the school website on stclaresabbey@gmail.com We would also love to publish some photographs of your family’s summer- these can also be sent to the website.
Start of year parents’ meetings:
At these, teachers will be showing samples of the standard of work that we wish your child to produce as they move through the year. They are very important meetings and we would like to have each child represented either by a parent/guardian or a representative aged 18+.
