February in Mrs Kearney's Class

25th Feb 2026

February has certainly been a very busy month for us! The children have been working incredibly hard across all areas of the Curriculum. We also enjoyed a lovely midterm break, which was very well deserved.
We were delighted to welcome Miss McGeoghegan, who joined us as a student teacher. She has carried out lots of lovely activities with the class and has been impressed by how engaged the children have been during Play Based Learning and throughout the Curriculum.
In Literacy, we have continued to focus on our sounds, high‑frequency words, segmenting and blending, emergent writing, and early reading skills.
In Numeracy, we have been exploring numbers beyond 10. The children are becoming very confident with addition using sets, 10 frames and Numicon. We have also been learning about 3D shapes, practising numbers before and after, and ordering numbers in our Mental Maths sessions.
This month, our Play Based Learning has taken place in Outdoor Construction, The Sand and Water Area, The Wheeled Vehicles and The Park. We also spent time discussing our emotions during our Nurture in Five session with Mr Byrne.
February has brought lots of special events, too. We celebrated Red Day and Safer Internet Day. As part of our preparation for Lent, we enjoyed making pancakes on Pancake Tuesday, and we received our Ashes from Mrs Donnelly on Ash Wednesday.
We hope you enjoy this little glimpse into our exciting learning experiences throughout February.
