Newry Feis School Success 2026

St. Clare's Abbey PS worked very hard at the Feis this year. The children took part in Choir, Fireside singing, Creative music, Choral Speaking and individual poems.

In the Music section of the Feis, The Fireside Singers achieved 1st in their section. They won the Miss Mary Murphy Irish Folk Song Choirs cup.
The P2 classes participated in the creative music section of the Feis. Both classes performed very well and the adjudicator was extremely impressed with their pieces about climate change and litter. Miss Rocks’ class came first place and Miss Mc Caughey’s class came second place.
Finally, the School Choir sang in the Hymn Singing competition. The choir got on extremely well and came third in the competition! The adjudicator was very impressed with our choir for their secure harmony, good dynamics, and balance of voices.
In the Speech and Drama section of the Feis Primary 3 class Miss Duffy’s came second in their choral speaking with 85 marks. They performed “First day at school” by Roger Mc Gough and “In the land of the Bumbley Boo” by Spike Milligan. They were wonderful.
Primary 7 choral group came 1st with 87 marks. They performed “Colonel Fazackerly Butterworth-Toast by Charles Causle and “The Greedy Giant” by Laura E. Richards. They won the Kevin P. Neary Memorial cup.
Our P6 school drama group performed “The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Anderson. They came 1st with 87 marks. They won The Billy Locke Memorial cup. Nia McKenna won the Kathleen Harrington Perpetual Challenge cup for the most promising actor.

There were children who won medals or got a highly commended certificate in their individual poem competition.
Well done to Sammy Clarke for coming 4th and Dan Digney for coming 2nd in P1.
Cillian Duffy for achieving highly commended in P3.Arianna Kidd for coming 4th, Susan Shields and Aoife Jennings for coming 3rd place in P4.
Hugo Thornber for coming 2nd in P5.
For Seamus Shields and Treasa Mc Coy for achieving Highly Commended, Emma Malone for 3rd place and Sophie Mc Kernan who came 1st in P6. Additionally, Sophie received an additional prize for receiving the highest mark in Primary School Speech and Drama P5-P7.
For Chloe Quinn for achieving highly commended in P7.
The rest of the school was well represented by children who spoke their poem with great understanding and conviction.
Well done everyone for such talent, hard work and commitment. Our children were wonderful for attending the Feis and we are so proud of them all.
