St Clares Abbey Primary School, Newry

March in Mrs Kearney’s Class

31st Mar 2026

P1 have continued their journey with sounds and have shown great enthusiasm as they build words and begin forming simple sentences. We have enjoyed listening to well‑known stories like Elmer, and we’ve also explored a range of new books during our guided reading sessions. World Book Day was a real highlight—we joined the P4 children for the Big Read and took part in lots of exciting activities to celebrate our love of reading.

In Numeracy, we’ve been focusing on teen numbers and addition. We have also been investigating important non-number concepts such as pattern and weight.

Our Play Based Learning has been full of adventure again this month, with hands-on experiences in The Forest, The Meadow, The Creative Classroom, and The Mud Kitchen.

We also celebrated many special occasions throughout March. We enjoyed marking St Patrick’s Day, had great fun on World Book Day, a trip to Bagenal’s Castle and created thoughtful gifts for our mums and the wonderful women who care for us. We learned about the Holy Season of Lent and have begun preparing for Easter as well.

Please enjoy this small snapshot of our learning and play experiences from the month of March.
