St Clares Abbey Primary School, Newry

November & December Mrs Browne’s class

18th Dec 2025

This has been an extremely busy half term for Primary 6. In Numeracy we were given set materials to use to make our own square metre. We worked in groups to come up with a plan for the best way to do this. We then measured our squares to check how accurate we were, before using our square metres to estimate and measure large areas. We also conducted a survey of the number of different colours of cars in our school car park. Pyjama day was a great day to do this as we were nice and cosy while outside counting the cars. We then used our information to create a bar chart.

We made tasty Rice Krispie Square treats when learning about instructional writing, using images of our method to then write our own step by step recipe. They were delicious, if we do say so ourselves!

In other news, we participated in the Diocesan Singing Advent Mass, which was simply beautiful. We had a visit from NSPCC where we learned about the importance of “speaking out and staying safe.” We also enjoyed using oil pastels to create beautiful Winter scenes.

To round off what has been a wonderful first term, we have had lots of festive fun including Christmas jumper day, a beautiful Christmas dinner, Santa run and even a visit from Mr and Mrs Clause.
