P4 Mrs Cribbin’s class visit Newry Library.
Our P4 pupils thoroughly enjoyed two visits to Newry Library. We were warmly welcomed by John and Corwyn, who helped the children learn how the library is organised. The pupils explored the difference between fiction and non-fiction books and were introduced to how the Dewey Decimal System is used to help readers locate texts easily.
The children were also informed the children about a range of free events available at Newry Library, including the Reading Gang, Lego Club, arts and crafts activities for St Patrick’s Day (pre-registration required), as well as competition opportunities for children to get involved in.
A highlight of our visits was the opportunity for the children to browse, select and borrow a book using their new library cards, encouraging independence and a love of reading.
On both visits the children were a credit to our school, demonstrating wonderful listening skills and exemplary behaviour throughout their time in the library. We hope this visit inspires all to call back to the library, spend some time browsing the shelves and share the enjoyment of reading at home. Thank you to our P4 parents for supporting and encouraging their child’s reading journey.
