Busy and Brilliant Learning in P5! 🌱🇮🇪💧
P5 have had a very busy and exciting time in class, packed full of hands-on learning and memorable experiences! In numeracy, we investigated fractions using Smarties, which was a fun (and tasty!) way to explore sharing and equal parts. The children were fully engaged and loved learning in such a practical way. As part of our World Around Us topic, we became mini gardeners. We plantedlettuce, mint and rocket in class and carefully watched them grow. The children loved checking on their plants and were very proud to take their own plants home to continue caring for them. We also planted in the polytunnel and are looking forward to checking back regularly to see how our plants are growing. We carried out a fascinating science investigation by mummifying a tomato, helping us learn more about preservation and changes over time. The children were very curious and asked lots of thoughtful questions. March was also full of celebration as we marked St Patrick’s Day with a Green Day. Everyone made a fantastic effort wearing green! We learned all about Irish sports, enjoyed listening to and singing Irish songs, and even tried some Irish dancing, which was great fun. We had the opportunity to attend an Enterprise NI information day, where we learned about money and finance. This helped the children understand the importance of saving, spending wisely and making good financial choices. We were delighted to welcome some special visitors into school. NI Water spoke to us about the importance of water conservation and reducing water waste, helping the children understand how small actions can make a big difference. Dave Wiggins also visited and talked to us about sustainable ways to travel, encouraging us to think about how we can help look after our environment. P5 also enjoyed a joint P5 and P6 bingo session, which was a lovely opportunity to mix, have fun and build friendships across the classes. A big thank you to ECPD and Miss O’Shea for organising and supporting this enjoyable event. P5 have shown great enthusiasm, curiosity and responsibility throughout all these activities. Well done to everyone for your fantastic learning – we can’t wait to see what we do next!
