Recycled Bird Feeders and New Wildlife Homes Across Our School

25th Feb 2026

This week, our pupils have been busy helping to care for the birds who visit our school grounds. Using recycled cardboard cylinders, the children created their own bird feeders by coating the tubes in fat and rolling them in bird seed. It was a wonderfully messy, hands‑on activity that helped everyone learn how simple materials can be reused to support local wildlife.

Once the feeders were ready, our Eco Council took the lead in hanging them in St Francis Garden, where they are already attracting plenty of feathered visitors.

As part of our wider commitment to supporting nature, we have now installed bird houses and bird feeders in every area of our school. Bird baths and additional feeders have been hung from trees in St Francis Garden, the nursery, and the EYFS area. Bird houses have also been placed in our poly tunnel area and throughout our Forest School space.

These additions help create safe, welcoming habitats for birds all year round, and our pupils are excited to keep watching which species come to explore their new homes.

A big well done to everyone involved — especially our Eco Council for guiding and supporting this fantastic project.
