World War 2 Experience in Bagenal’s Castle. P4 Mrs Cribbin’s class.
P4 World War II Immersive Experience at Bagenal’s Castle
Our P4 pupils enjoyed a fascinating and interactive World War II experience at Bagenal’s Castle in Newry. Throughout the visit, the children stepped back in time to discover what life was like for local people during the war.
They learned about the important role of Fire Guard Wardens, finding out how these volunteers helped protect communities during air raids. The children also explored the locations of Newry’s air‑raid shelters, gaining a real sense of how residents kept safe during wartime.
The workshop brought the life and times of wartime Newry to life, including the vital contributions of the Women’s Institute, whose members worked tirelessly to support families and the community.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity to handle and examine authentic World War II artefacts from the castle’s collection, giving pupils a hands‑on connection to the past.
Many thanks to Declan and all the team at Bagenal’s Castle for providing such an engaging and memorable experience. We are incredibly lucky to have this valuable historical resource right on our doorstep.
