Principal's Update 17/5/24
Dear parents,
P7 confirmation was a truly heartwarming occasion last Friday. The pupils were a credit to our school and their families. The participation in the liturgy from adults and children was absolutely wonderful and there was a true sense of joy in the church. Thank you to our dedicated staff and to you and your supportive families.
This Sunday at 5.30 in Newry Cathedral, all pupils who have received confirmation and Holy communion are invited to a special mass to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost- that is known in the Church as the first sacrament of confirmation as it was on that day that the apostles received the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Kyle and Caoimhe will be representing our school at the mass, I look forward to seeing them and hopefully many other St Clare’s Abbey boys and girls in their sacramental outfits.
Next Thursday 23rd May ( weather permitting) we will host the Annual May Procession @ 1.15 for P4 & P7pupils.
All parents of these pupils are welcome to attend and pupils can wear their sacramental clothes if they wish. Each class will be setting up a little prayer space to Mary on the route of the procession and I urge you to enjoy these as you make your way up through the forest.
We are busily practising May Hymns in school as we make an extra special effort to honour Our Lord’s precious mother, Mary. I hope that you are hearing the tunes at home and that they awaken for many of you, memories of your own childhood.
We would love if you would send in some flowers for the various May Altars around the school and photographs of your own altar if you have one in your house. We will post them on the school website.
The final words of this message go to the most important pupils in our school this weekend- the P4s. Having worked so hard to prepare for First Holy Communion, the special day will take place tomorrow. The children’s reverence while practising today was extremely touching and a credit to the staff and families who have worked so diligently to prepare them.
I ask you to join me in praying that they and their families will have a very meaningful sacrament and a weekend of joyous celebration.
Enjoy a lovely weekend, yours in partnership,
Mrs Monaghan

Safety in school grounds
I really need your help parents and remind you:
That we operate a 'drop off zone' and a one way system. We have had a few 'near misses as parents have not followed the one way system and have 'cut off' across the flow of traffic, to park in the area beside the canteen. I am very fearful that we will have an accident.
- That you need to be so careful when dropping off children. Pupils should disembark onto the pavement- not onto the road/ car park side, where cars are busily trying to depart.
- When driving off from your'drop off position' that you need to be mindful of other cars coming up from behind. We have had a few 'near collisions' re this.
- That buses are being held up when some of you stay too long in your 'drop off' position. I have frequently seen the bus unable to take the bend to get to its drop off position because some of you have left your car unattended or are delaying your departure to make phone calls etc, unaware that your vehicle is blocking the way.
I know that with your support we can make the process safer for our school community.
Mrs Monaghan
