November in Mrs McKeown/Mrs McGoldrick's class

28th Nov 2019

November has been a great month in P2. The children are really settling into working like super primary 2 children now. They are working so hard and we are so proud of them.

In literacy we have been predicting what we think will happen next, through interesting stories. The children had different predictions and it was lovely to see them so happy and at ease when chatting about what they thought.

We have been writing lots and lots and all the practice is really starting to show now. We spent a lot of time working on instructions. We followed instructions for painting and making toasted soldiers and then we wrote our own instructions for both.

We explored the app ‘puppet pals’ and then used it to re-tell the story of The Three little Pigs. This was a lot of fun!

In Numeracy we learned about subtraction. We have been recognising the sign and how we have to ‘take away’. We have been using our new knowledge to do practical and written sums, as well as using it to complete problem solving questions. These really make us think as they can be tricky sometimes. We have also been revising and learning some more on adding. Numicon and ten arrays help us with our adding and subtracting.

Play Based Learning has seen us investigating clay. We learned how to make slip, to join the clay together and how to make coils. We loved investigating the textures and it created lots of discussion in our class. We are working really well together and focusing on what we are doing in play. We worked together to decide on suitable numbers for different areas and we are enjoying re telling what we have been doing during our play.

PE is super fun with Galaxy coaching. All of the children have been trying so hard in gymnastics. We have learned lots of new gymnastics terminology also.
