Congratulations to these 8 fantastic students who were fantastic ambassadors for our school today in Belfast.
The children took part in a Lego League Challenge, run by Sentinus. Even though they were competing against many secondary school students, our P5/6 boys and girls still managed to impress and come home with the Judges’ award. What a tremendous achievement!
The challenge was based around the theme of energy and the children had a number of things to present. Firstly, they had to identify a current energy problem and offer up a solution in the form of an innovation project. The children identified ships in the ocean as a current problem due to the need for fossil fuels to be burnt in order to power them. They discussed the damage this causes to our planet and future. The solution they offered was to fit solar panels on the ships which would be more eco friendly. The judges’ couldn’t help but be impressed by the way the children spoke at such a young age.
The second part of the challenge involved programming a pre built robot to carry out a number of missions in a two and a half minute window. The programming team managed to complete 4 missions in that time, accruing 175 points!
