St Clare's Abbey in Newry Musical Feis

18th May 2017

It is so wonderful to see the musical talent that exists in St Clare's Abbey. There were lots of pitch perfect performances in Newry Town Hall and in the Arts Centre! Have a read below to see the different competitions in which we entered.

Choir

This year the boys and girls in our school choir represented St Clare’s Abbey in Newry Feis. We entered the Hymn singing competition in which we sang “Be still for the presence of the Lord”, followed by “These are the days of Elijah”. In this competition we placed Second, and the adjudicator commented on how much energy and zest the choir had in their performance. We also competed in another section of the feis and sang “No matter what”, followed by a Peace Proms favourite; “Tomorrow”. Again, the boys and girls were placed second which was a fabulous achievement. We are so proud of the choir for being fantastic ambassadors with a super attitude to competing. Well done!

Recorder

Mr Clarke and Miss Duffy prepared P4, P5, P6 and P7 children to compete in various recorder competitions. The boys and girls worked so well as part of an ensemble and were extremely confident and well-polished on the stage. Congratulations!

Solo singing

Some boys and girls in Primary 6 and Primary 7 entered Newry Feis "solo singing" competition. They performed "We're off to see the wizard" and did so with fabulous expression, diction and tuning. Student teacher Miss Lynchahon and Miss Mallon prepared the children and were extremely proud of the way in which they performed. Getting up on stage and singing a solo is a fabulous achievement, so very well done!
